Our ongoing "15 mins series" features today our third guest and an artist user - DJ Levent Er from Istanbul, Turkey. He is a DJ, producer, remixer, and famous label owner of Pro Clubbin' Records. We interviewed Levent Er about his DJing career, COVID situation in Turkey, new releases, upcoming tracks & events.
We're extremely happy to have you with us, Mr. Levent Er. I'll come straight to my questionnaire, which says;
- Where are you from? For how long have you been DJing?
Hey everybody! I was born in Istanbul, Turkey. I have been working in the music industry for many years. I can say, since 2000. I had the opportunity to work with local and global artists. On radios around the world, in addition to the broadcast sets, I have also been producing for a long time. My works published since 2008 in foreign albums overseas and globally. I had performed in numerous festivals and events, mainly WMC Miami, thanks to its presence and various remixes; I am the founder and owner of Pro Clubbin’ Records, Istanbul since 2010. I have developed my style, described it as a melodic house & techno, and progressive house. Also, I love to play the techno genre :)
2. How has lockdown been locally? What chances have you had for playing out or to an audience?
It was so boring and sad times of course. In order not to get into a melancholic mood during the closure period, I was more interested in music. My family and I spent time being careful and followed the rules. Since all nightclubs and bars were closed, I focused on my radio programs for my listeners.
I signed a contract with Creative Events Promoter (CEP), Amsterdam and helped with their advertisements. I'm excited to work together.
3. How do you think the scene in your country will change as we move to an open state?
Our vaccination processes in Turkey have been completed and our outdoor parties have started. I believe that, if we follow the rules, everything will be alright. July 2021 was very active and every weekend was full. Every weekend in August was full also. I have shared the stage with Matador on August 21. I will perform at festivals in September and October 2021.
4. Your production is focused on Melodic Techno and Trance. What producers inspired you and why?
I like to use sounds that relax and entertain my soul. I was influenced by some bands I've been listening to since I was young. For example, Depeche Mode and their tones. Later, I was influenced by the trance works of Paul van Dyk and similar artists. I can also describe John Digweed gentleman, as a teacher. I also like artists like Stan Kolev and Matan Caspi, whose work I liked recently.
5. Ableton or Logic?
I use Ableton when creating music, and I work comfortably because I have used it for a long time. I can use it for Mix or Remix. It is successful because it has a wide range of utilities and additional programs. Logic is more useful for mastering.
6. What would be your top 5 underground artists to look out for?
I have worked with and listened to a wide variety of artists. But if I had to choose, John Digweed, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, Dubfire, Umek.
7. When can we next see you behind the decks?
We have many plans and projects, and I plan to implement them soon. In order of closest, Wonderland Fest Bodrum -TR 15-17 September 2021, Magic Break Fest with Ravin Group at Antalya city 17-19 September 2021.
